PASA dinner at Longwood Gardens

On Friday, September 26 Marilyn Anthony (SE Regional Director) and Brian Snyder (Executive Director), of the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture, hosted a very special Harvest Celebration benefit dinner at Longwood Gardens. The event was a real pleasure to attend - considering there was lots of good food, good drink, good company and we all got to take home tubs of Natural by Nature butter (thanks Ned!).

The evening began with a cocktail hour, during which a special recognition award was presented to Judy Wicks in honor of the White Dog Cafe 's 25th anniversary. This was followed by a delicious dinner, interspersed with speeches and the unveiling of Buy Fresh Buy Local's new consumer on-line network - The Good Food Neighborhood. We will be writing a lot more about this in a later posting.
During one of the speeches the Director of Longwood, Paul B. Redman, pledged to work toward using more local produce in their restaurant (including what grows in their Idea Garden) and then graciously waived the facility fee for the evening!

And also worth mentioning, the good folks at Philadelphia Distilling brought plenty of their Bluecoat Gin and also introduced a new local vodka, "Penn 1681". It was really yummy so keep an eye out for it.

Introducing Bartram

Bartram joined the farm in August and already he seems to be right at home. Named for John Bartram, the 18th century Quaker botanist, Bartram the dog seems to also be a lover of plants and all things green and can often be found eating any green beans that fall on the floor of the distribution shed. When not doing that he spends a lot of his time following Claire around. We hope to expand his responsibilities to include pest control, but he seems to be too kind a soul for any serious management of vermin. We'll leave that to Nina the cat (who, oddly enough, is not a fan of Bartram's).

Digging potatoes and creating blogs...

Dear All:

Inverbrook Farm is joining the Blogosphere!

We have been inspired by a wonderful new neighbor and her fabulous blog ( http://seedsimple.com/) and while we don't think ours will contain quite as many postings, we do hope it offers us an easy format for sharing information so we can stay in touch with everyone in our virtual and actual communities.

back to digging potatoes,
your friends at Inverbrook
