On Friday, September 26 Marilyn Anthony (SE Regional Director) and Brian Snyder (Executive Director), of the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture, hosted a very special Harvest Celebration benefit dinner at Longwood Gardens. The event was a real pleasure to attend - considering there was lots of good food, good drink, good company and we all got to take home tubs of Natural by Nature butter (thanks Ned!).
The evening began with a cocktail hour, during which a special recognition award was presented to Judy Wicks in honor of the White Dog Cafe 's 25th anniversary. This was followed by a delicious dinner, interspersed with speeches and the unveiling of Buy Fresh Buy Local's new consumer on-line network - The Good Food Neighborhood. We will be writing a lot more about this in a later posting.
During one of the speeches the Director of Longwood, Paul B. Redman, pledged to work toward using more local produce in their restaurant (including what grows in their Idea Garden) and then graciously waived the facility fee for the evening!
And also worth mentioning, the good folks at Philadelphia Distilling brought plenty of their Bluecoat Gin and also introduced a new local vodka, "Penn 1681". It was really yummy so keep an eye out for it.
